Existence and Properties of Semidiscrete Shock Profiles for the Isentropic Gas Dynamic System with γ=3
نویسنده
چکیده
We consider a semidiscrete kinetic scheme for the isentropic gas dynamic system with γ = 3 which corresponds exactly to the “transport-collapse method” of Brenier. We show the existence of shock profiles for every admissible limit values. In addition we give properties of such profiles.

Stability of Isentropic Navier–Stokes Shocks in the High-Mach Number Limit∗
By a combination of asymptotic ODE estimates and numerical Evans function calculations, we establish stability of viscous shock solutions of the isentropic compressible Navier–Stokes equations with γ -law pressure (i) in the limit as Mach number M goes to infinity, for any γ ≥ 1 (proved analytically), and (ii) for M ≥ 2, 500, γ ∈ [1, 2.5] or M ≥ 13, 000, γ ∈ [2.5, 3] (demonstrated numerically)....
متن کاملStability of Viscous Shocks in Isentropic Gas Dynamics
In this paper, we examine the stability problem for viscous shock solutions of the isentropic compressible Navier–Stokes equations, or p-system with real viscosity. We first revisit the work of Matsumura and Nishihara, extending the known parameter regime for which small-amplitude viscous shocks are provably spectrally stable by an optimized version of their original argument. Next, using a nov...

Article history: Received 5 June 2009 Revised 2 March 2010 Available online 12 August 2010 Extending investigations of Barker, Humpherys, Lafitte, Rudd, and Zumbrun for compressible gas dynamics and Freistühler and Trakhinin for compressible magnetohydrodynamics, we study by a combination of asymptotic ODE estimates and numerical Evans function computations the one-dimensional stability of para...
متن کاملNo Tvd Fields for 1-d Isentropic Gas Flow
We prove that isentropic gas flow does not admit non-degenerate TVD fields on any invariant set M(r0, s0) = {r0 < r < s < s0}, where r, s are Riemann coordinates. A TVD field refers to a scalar field whose spatial variation VarX(φ(τ(t,X), u(t,X))) is nonincreasing in time along entropic solutions. The result is established under the assumption that the Riemann problem defined by an overtaking s...
متن کاملOn the shock wave spectrum for isentropic gas dynamics with capillarity
We consider the stability problem for shock layers in Slemrod’s model of an isentropic gas with capillarity. We show that these traveling waves are monotone in the weak capillarity case, and become highly oscillatory as the capillarity strength increases. Using a spectral energy estimate we prove that small-amplitude monotone shocks are spectrally stable. We also show, through the use of a nove...
